Guests Of Note Since 1994:
- July 8, 1997: I was present (as the only Pharmacist and with full press credentials) at the Mayo Clinic worldwide press conference in Rochester, Minnesota when Fen-Phen, a powerful popular diet drug combination, taken by 18 million Americans, was deemed to cause heart valve disease in otherwise healthy patients. This unusual early announcement of study results to be later published in the August 28 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine prompted the FDA to send warning letters to doctors asking them to immediately check their patients for heart valve damage. Five of 24 women studied who were taking the Fen-Phen combination had to have open heart surgery to replace leaking or damaged heart valves. I believe if memory serves correctly I was even able to ask a question of Dr. Donald Hensrud, a co-author of the report, during the press conference. This non-public event was one of the most unique opportunities I have had as a pharmacist and in this case as a "member of the press" to participate in as a provider of the healthcare team.
- Senator D. Scott Dibble (DFL-Minneapolis) chief author of the Minnesota Medical Cannabis bill which was passed and signed into law by Governor Dayton to take effect July 1, 2015 was my guest during June 2014 show after the Minnesota legislative session ended.
- Steve Simenson, RPh, President of the American Pharmacists' Association (APhA) and one of our own from right here in Minnesota, discussed the difference pharmacists make in the health of patients across the country every day, October 2013.
- Brad Trahan, co-founder of RT Autism Awareness Foundation and chair of Minnesota's Autism Spectrum Disorder Task Force, April 2009 and April 2013.
- Dr. Robert Jacobson, Department of Pediatrics at Mayo Clinic, discusses pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak and prevention in December 2012. Enterovirus, HPV vaccine, flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccines in October 2014 and in August 11, 2015 visit with discussion focusing on HPV, Tdap, Meningitis vaccines, nutrition including not drinking juices but sticking to water and milk, NO clinical nor medical link ever between autism and vaccines just better at diagnosing earlier in life, amount of sleep and limiting daily recreational screen time to 2 hours.
- Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN 7th District), Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee to discuss passage of the School Lunch Nutrition Bill and various other US Health initiatives Congress is involved with in 2010.
- Thomas Kottke, MD, world renowned cardiologist and original director of Mayo Clinic's Cardiovision 2020 in February 2011 and 2012, May 2013, February 2014, May 2017.
- University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy's Dean, Marilyn Speedie, in October 2011 to discuss the education and training of today's pharmacists.
- Gary Pundt, RPh discusses flu shots and other important vaccinations available at his Rochester community pharmacy practice in October 2011.
- Pharmacists from the Minnesota Poison Control Center located at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis numerous visits 1995, 1996, 1997.
- A Pharmacist who specialize in cardiac medications from Mayo Clinic in 1995 and 1996.
- Brian Leary, from Pharmaceutical Specialties (makers of Vanicream) to discuss their new sunscreen and entire product line for people with sensitive skin during numerous visits over the years.
- Dozens of Doctor of Pharmacy externs from North Dakota State University, University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota-Duluth and Creighton Pharmacy Schools who have been on rotations at my pharmacy during their last year of school and who now are practicing throughout the United States in a variety of practice settings. Pharmacist Peterson has preceptored dozens of Pharm D externs sharing his 31 years of community practice experience and his award winning practice style focusing on innovative healthcare initiatives and the best care for each of his patients.
- The show has originated from numerous interesting locations besides the KROC AM studios, always LIVE, such as Washington DC, Pine Island, Rushford, Rochester, Tofte, Audubon, Walker, Red Wing and Mason City to name a few "on location" sites!
- Dr. Will Mayo in an address to graduating medical school doctors in 1910: "The best interest of the patient is the ONLY interest to be considered..."
